I Renaissance sono un gruppo inglese con un buon seguito negli anni '70 sia in UK che negli USA. Di solito sono catalogati nel genere progressive, ma con questo hanno in comune solo gli arrangiamenti stile "musica classica di alcuni brani, mentre si notano di più le influenze folk e jazz. Carpet Of The Sun è uno dei loro successi più ricordato ed era inserita  nell'album "Ashes Are Burning" (1973). I conponeneti del gruppo alla data di questo album erano  Annie Haslam / lead vocals, Jon Camp / bass, vocals, Terrence Sullivan / drums, percussion, backing vocals, John Tout / keyboards, backing vocals, Michael Dunford / acoustic guitar.

Il gruppo aveva però iniziato la sua storia nel 1969 per iniziativa del cantante  Keith Relf e del batterista Jim McCarty,  degli Yardbirds assieme a John Hawken, Louis Cennamo e la sorell di Relf Jane. Gli Yardbirds si eranao separati l'anno prima,  l'altra "ala" con Jimmy Page puntava all'hard e avrebbe fondato i Led Zeppelin, mentre i due erano interessati al nascente progressive e alle sue molte diramazioni.
